Welcome

Gatesville Dragons Gatesville Dragon
ITS GREAT TO BE A DRAGON!!!!!!!
2016-2017
Dear Dragon Family,

We are at the midway point of the 2016-2017 school year. It has been quite an eventful year to date. We have had three major weather events that disrupted the flow of the first half of the year. These weather events have made for various calendar adjustments. However,we Dragons adapt and overcome.

Among our things to celebrate this year were a highly successful Fall Festival, widely attended programs such as the Thanksgiving and Christmas programs, the father-daughter dance, and donuts with dad. We also had a successful Y-Ties fundraiser and what we hope to be a successful RADA Cutlery fundraiser. Our teachers have received thousands of dollars worth of grants, which include things like flexible seating, getting kindles for classrooms, and about 900 dollars worth of new PE equipment through “Donors Choose”, Duke Energy science night, “Bright Ideas” Grants and some donations. Our teachers are always seeking ways to find better resources for the students.

Our benchmark scores are encouraging, but there is plenty of work to be done. Please check to see that your student is doing his/her homework, and also get them reading as much as possible. Ten to fifteen minutes a day can make a big difference. Report cards are now out for the second nine weeks. If you have any concerns, or need to discuss the progress of your student, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to discuss and find a road map for the success of your dragon. With half of the year yet, it’s not too late, but as you know, it gets late fast.

The second half of the year will be a busy one, the learning becomes more rigorous and curriculum gets more involved, as we try to prepare your student for the next grade. It will also include fun things like Muffins with Mom in March, Duke Energy Science Night (at the tail end of March), the spring book fair in April and the second annual Dragon Fest in May. Who knows what other things might pop up? We appreciate your support and involvement in your child’s education. We believe “It’s Great To Be A Dragon” and hope you believe so too.

Sincerely,

Scott Corrente
