UPDATE: THREAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Dear Parents, Teachers, Students and Community Members:
This letter serves as a follow-up on the threat posted on social media discovered on Monday February 19, 2018 at 10:00 am. As shared in the previous letter, Gates County Public Schools’ officials, administrators, and school resource officers were made aware of a threat that was posted on social media, which I cannot authenticate.
I am in constant contact with the Gates County Sheriff’s Department who is continuing to investigate the matter. School officials, administrators, the school resource officer and the Gates County Sheriff’s Department are working collaboratively, taking all possible measures to ensure a safe and secure school environment for the students and staff. This team has conferred and thoroughly reviewed and enacted the school’s safety plan. When school resumes on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, there will be an additional presence of law enforcement to proactively ensure the students and staff are safe.
I am very grateful for the school stakeholders who informed me of the social media post containing the threat. I strongly urge all students, staff, and parents to continue to communicate information regarding the safety of our schools.
I will continue to keep you informed of any new information and/or updates on the social media threat as they become available. As always, the safety of our students and community is paramount and we will remain vigilant in doing all within our power to keep students out of harm’s way, as student safety is our number one priority.
Thank you for your belief in and continued support of the Gates County Public Schools. My belief will not waiver that safety is a priority!
Dr. Barry Williams
