Volunteer Guidelines for Gates County Public Schools

Level One (Does Not Require a Background Check)

- Parents attending field day

- Parents eating lunch with their child

- Fall Festival volunteers

- Working concessions

- School dance volunteer

- Proctoring student tests

The building level principal must approve all Level One volunteers.

Level Two (Requires a Background Check)

- Tutors for individual students or small groups

- Field trip chaperons

- Volunteer coaches

- Volunteer office/media center/classroom helpers

Building level principals must submit level two volunteers to the Human Resource Department for board approval.

Level Two volunteers must complete the District Volunteer Form and visit the following site to complete background requirements:

Background checks for volunteers are monitored for 3 years.  For example, if you have completed a background check on 7/1/2024, another background check is not due until 3 years (7/1/2027) from the date you completed it.  One background check covers all schools in the Gates County School district.  If you have questions about your background check, please contact the principal at the school for which you are volunteering.  Employees of GCS do not complete a volunteer background check.
