2024-2025In Loving Memory of Ayden and Keeton Hawks - Two boxes of books were donated to our library in memory of two former students that passed away in July 2023. I failed to take a picture of all the books before students started borrowing them, so the picture below is only a small portion of those donated. Thank you to Ayden and Keeton's mom and Gates Co High School Media Coordinator, Crystal Craig, for the donation.DonorsChoose Project "Learning Through Picture Books" - 15 new books totaling $189.Scholastic Dollars - We earn Scholastic Dollars by hosting book fairs. The following 16 books were purchased with our Scholastic Dollars we earned last year.Donors Choose Project "More Series to Love!" - 40 books totaling $490. (Two books were already checked out when I took the pictures.)We've been granted almost $500 for more books thanks to the DKG grant!! The books have been ordered. Stay tuned for pictures...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~During the 2022-2023 school year we were awarded two grants totaling over $3,400!The first grant was from The North Carolina Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Foundation for $483.83. We were able to purchase a total of 21 books: 6 "Journey Into Space" books, 8 "Planet in Our Solar System" books and 7 "Continents of the World" books. These books were purchased with our third grade students in mind in hopes of connecting reading with the topics students study in science and social studies. THANK YOU DKG for supporting literacy in our school!The second grant was from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for $2,950. We were able to purchase a total of 147 books with a concentration on kindergarten - third Grade reading levels. This included some favorite picture book series like Froggy, Biscuit, Fly Guy, Charlie the Ranch Dog, Dragon, Curious George, and Elephant & Piggie We also purchased some new chapter book series like Mercy Watson, Lunch Lady, Bots, and Magic Tree House Graphics. Finally we purchased the entire "I am" young biography collection including titles like I am Jackie Robinson, I am Jane Goodall, and I am Malala Yousafzai. We are extremely excited that our Summer Reading Camp and 21st Century Summer Camp students were able to read these throughout the summer and we can't wait for the rest of the school to begin reading them this fall!
